$1,500 TO RUN A PR. $0 TO STAY INJURY-FREE.
Carbon-plated shoes, a GPS watch, a race singlet, race entry and gels. Emil did the math: chasing a new 10K PR can easily cost around $1,500. Meanwhile, most runners spend nothing on staying injury-free until their next race. For Emil, Gaitline is the insurance: the shoes he wears every hour he walks, stands and gets on with life between workouts.
“I don’t have time to lie around with my feet up. I need this insurance.”
MEET EMIL GUKILD
Emil Gukild is one of Norway’s best-known sports TV presenters, now going all in as a long-distance cross-country skier. He has strong opinions on training, music and men in tights. He’s training for the original Birkebeiner in Norway, a 54 km ski marathon over the mountains where every skier carries a 3.5 kg backpack. He runs around 900 miles a year and has trained more this past year than ever, without injury. He credits what’s on his feet the rest of the day.
WHEN THE WORKOUT IS OVER
Your running shoes have their job. The rest of the day, it’s Gaitline.
“I can’t stop thinking about how much money I’ve saved. Gaitline means I don’t have to spend thousands on treatments to stay injury-free.”
TRAINING FOR THE BIRKEBEINER, WITH A SMILE
Training for the Birkebeiner doesn’t mean the road there is easy. Ask Emil for his go-to workout for building fitness and the answer is simple: 6 x 5 minutes at a 10% incline, with 2 minutes of rest between reps.
Music matters just as much. For Emil, it’s less about genre and more about the feeling:
“The best music to train to is whatever puts you in a really good mood! Party music works best for me.”
“This is an investment I honestly believe everyone should make.”
